After 28 years with Fitzgerald's, I was fortunate enough to make friends from all over
the world. Some I see frequently while others only when they come to visit each year.
When Fitzgerald's closed, it may have been the end of an era but for me it was the
realization and beginning of a dream. I knew I would miss my friends I considered
family who worked with me for so many years as well as my friends most call
customers.
I decided to start a restaurant with unique qualities but keeping in the same island
tradition so many came to enjoy for years and years. I have created Hugo’s to
continue that tradition of Low Country dining at its finest. Hugo’s will bring you the
same flare and exceptional service that you have come to expect.
As I developed the menu, many old friends asked, “Aren't you going to have the
crabcakes?” and “Aren't you going to feature the she-crab soup and the pecan fried
chicken and ....” and on and on the requests came in for old favorites I had served
them for years. I've kept some old favorites and developed new ones and look
forward to seeing all my old friends and making some new ones along the way. Many
of the Fitzgerald's staff have joined me so come see some familiar faces for a unique
time.
